9/9/19 The members are giving US commitments

This week was interesting when it came to member dinners.

First, we had dinner with the Bellistons, who, after we shared a message about bearing testimonies,
committed US to bear our testimonies more.

The next day we had dinner with Brother Blanton (at Chick-fil-A whoop whoop!)
and shared a message on praying for missionary opportunities. In return, he committed
us to pray to receive help from our ancestors, because he's had some neat experiences
with that in his life. I've been requesting lots of help from my Grandma Muhlestein since then πŸ’–

And the next day we had dinner with Sister Talbert, who got to hear us talk about
strengthening our foundation on Christ and committed us to write our experiences in our
journals so we never forget them. I've been a huge advocate for journal writing since I was
about 10, so I've been really trying! It's tough to keep up with everything I want to talk about when
we have so little time though.

We have some amazing members in Milford. They keep us on our toes!

This week I've really had on my mind the importance of having the gospel be family centered
because I gave a talk on Sunday about making our homes into fortresses, and then in Sunday
School the topic was on the importance of the gospel being primarily taught in the home and
just being backed up by church. A few of my favorite quotes and scriptures I found while
preparing my talk were:

"Christ centered homes are fortresses for the kingdom of God
on earth in a day when, as prophesied, the devil "rage[s] in the
hearts of the children of men, and stir[s] them up to anger
against that which is good."" -Ronald A. Rasband

"Satan in a subtle snake, sneaking into our minds and hearts
when we have let our guard down, faced a disappointment, or
lost hope." -Ronald A. Rasband

"In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually
without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant
influence of the Holy Ghost." -President Russell M. Nelson

Helaman 5:12, which talks about the importance of Christ being our foundation:
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the
rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye
must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send
forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea,
when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you,
it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf
of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which
ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon
if men build they cannot fall."

Helaman 15:7-8, which talks about the importance of scripture study:
"And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed
it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of
the truth, and to know of the wicked and abominable traditions
of their fathers, and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea,
the prophecies of the holy prophets, which are written, which
leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which
faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them—
"Therefore, as many as have come to this, ye know of yourselves
are firm and steadfast in the faith, and in the thing wherewith they
have been made free."

And both Alma 2:28 and D&C 10:5 which talk about the importance of prayer.
Alma 2:28:
"Nevertheless, the Nephites being strengthened by the hand
of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him that he would deliver
them out of the hands of their enemies, therefore the Lord did
hear their cries, and did strengthen them, and the Lamanites
and the Amlicites did fall before them."

D&C 10:5
"Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that
you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the
hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work."

Throughout history, fortresses have been used to keep the enemy out. Satan is the enemy that
we most need protection from right now, and as we make our homes into fortresses by having
Family Home Evening, scripture study, and prayer, we can keep Satan at bay for the protection
of our families. I definitely recommend reading or listening again to two specific talks from last
General Conference: "Build a Fortress of Spirituality and Protection" by Ronald A. Rasband and
"Prepared to Obtain Every Needful Thing" by David A Bednar.

Our Relief Society is doing a "30 days till Conference" activity if anyone else wants to try it!
There are 30 days till General Conference starting from last Thursday, which means if you
read one talk every day from last conference you can get through them all before this
coming one! I recommend it πŸ˜Š I can't believe General Conference is less than a month away.
Last conference was held 3 days before I went into the MTC and it feels like it JUST happened!
But I'm so excited to get to watch it with some of the people we're teaching here πŸ’–

I hope you all have an amazing week! Keep putting your trust in the Lord and building your family fortresses!
Love,
Sister Bliss

Pictures!
Because I got no pictures this week, I'm including the copy of
the 30 day General Conference challenge in case anyone
wants it :)

Mom note!  I've included a couple screenshots of our video call with Sister Bliss!
We sure love being able to talk to her every week!!
